Breastfeeding support isn't equitable
We know that support isn‘t equitable for all. We at La Leche League Collective want to change that. One way is to elevate voices; voices of folks who can speak directly to what it was like for them to breastfeed or chestfeed in the UK or those who are professionals working to support minoritised communities.
Our Equity in Breastfeeding series is a monthly, 15 minute webinar delivered straight to your inbox. You’ll hear from a wide-range of speakers who will share their stories and expertise which will help you gain new perspectives to inform your practice and understanding of breastfeeding and chestfeeding in the UK today.
You can subscribe for only £4 a month, and you’ll automatically get a link to our recorded video that you can watch on demand at any time until the series ends. If you subscribe annually you will get access to the backdated episodes for year 2, starting June 2026. Great for a lunch and learn or an afternoon nursing session, these talks are geared towards anyone interested in breastfeeding or chestfeeding support, professionals and parents alike.

Esther Stimpson
Esther had her first baby at age 21. Her talk “Experiences Breastfeeding as a Young Mum” explores how breastfeeding worked for her not only as a young mum but also having had 4 children very close together.
July 2026 – social historian and lecturer at Carlow College
Dr. Judy Bolger
This talk, “Has Breast Always Been Best?“, challenges the idea of a historical ’golden age’ of breastfeeding by exploring the diverse and socially constrained infant feeding practices of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries by showing how medical advice, class dynamics, and economic pressures—particularly through the use of wet-nurses—impacted mothers’ choices and complicate assumptions that breastfeeding has ever been a simple or purely ’natural’ practice. Understanding the history of breastfeeding is an empowering way to support and promote breastfeeding in the modern world, by revealing the social, and economic factors that have always shaped mothers’ experiences and choices.

Shaheda joins us again in Year 2 to discuss a “Professional and Personal Guide to Exclusive Pumping“. Her talk will share both her personal experience of exclusively pumping on her own journey with both her children as well as her experience as a professional supporting others doing the same.

Natasha Harding
Natasha’s talk, “Experiences of Breastfeeding as a Black Woman,” will focus on her personal on experiences breastfeeding with considerations given to the historical and current factors that can impact Black women/parents who wish to breastfeed. The webinar aims to give people an insight into what the journey towards breastfeeding can be and consider the impact prejudice can have towards inequalities in the experience of breastfeeding.
july 2025 – Private Breastfeeding Specialist Midwife
Shaheda Yasmeen-Khan
Titled “How to improve feeding support for the South Asian community“, a South Asian breastfeeding specialist midwife explores key reasons as to why there is a lack of equality regarding breastfeeding support within her community and why her role as a South Asian, hijab wearing, Bengali Muslim midwife is pivotal for her community to get the support they desperately need and deserve and how the lack of diversity within the specialism impacts her community.
