About Us

Who is LLL Collective?

Our mission statement:

La Leche League Collective works across Great Britain to support, encourage, educate and advocate for a better understanding of human milk and the relationship breastfeeding/chestfeeding develops between babies, children and their families.

We are a member of LLL’s European Area Network.

La Leche League Collective is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, SC053899, regulated by the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

Our People

We are all volunteers who live across Great Britain, from Devon to Kent, to Glasgow and Edinburgh, and are internationally accredited breastfeeding counsellors through La Leche League International. Our title is Leaders and we have all breastfed or chestfed our babies for at least a year. We are actively seeking new Leader Applicants to join our team.

Our organisation is self-funded and entirely managed by volunteers. We have behind the scenes voluntary roles available as well.

Our support is always free for parents and families, but it’s not free to run. If you’re able to, we really appreciate donations to help us fund our work.

Our Inclusivity Statement

As accredited Leaders, we adhere to La Leche League International’s Inclusivity Statement:

We at La Leche League International have all nursed our babies. If you want to do the same, whoever you are, whatever your story is, we’re here to help.

LLLI is committed to serving everyone inclusive of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, physical or mental ability, socio-economic status, political views, gender identity, sexual orientation, family structure, or other protected status.

Our commitment: LLL Collective is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable environment for all individuals seeking breastfeeding, chestfeeding and human-milk feeding support. LLL Collective fully endorses the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and subsequent World Health Assembly resolutions. We offer support in compliance with all aspects of the International Code. We review our partnerships and relationships regularly to ensure that we only collaborate with those whose obligations meet the International Code.

Our Support

We offer in person and online breast/chestfeeding support. You don’t need to do anything special to attend any of our sessions. You don’t need to be on time. You don’t need to stay still. Come as you are, and we will meet you where you’re at. You can bring your friends or family members who are supporting you.

If you would prefer more 1-2-1 support, you can WhatsApp us anytime, and one of our Leaders will get in touch, or you can email support@lllcollective.org.uk and we’d be happy to arrange a call or just talk over email. If there’s another way we can support you, please let us know. We’re here to help you!

Our Work

Our primary mission is to provide support to breastfeeding and chestfeeding families. To that end we offer 1:1 support and group meetings, online and around the UK.

We also offer free antenatal sessions for expecting parents to learn more about lactation before baby is born. On every page, you can WhatsApp a Leader to connect with us, and a volunteer breastfeeding counsellor will respond as soon as possible.

We know support hasn’t always been equitable. We are offering a webinar series aimed at anyone working or volunteering within lactation to learn about barriers. LLL Collective is actively seeking partnerships with folks who work within antenatal spaces to do even more.

To support our work, we offer a supporter subscription that comes with a pin badge and a packed, quarterly newsletter. We offer other ways to support our work, from one-off donations, photo and story submissions, and volunteer roles, which includes free training for new breastfeeding counsellors.

Our Values

Inclusion

We aim to include everyone seeking support for breastfeeding, chestfeeding and human-milk feeding. We want everyone who interacts with us – parents and families, partnering organisations and our volunteers – to feel included by our support and practice, and also to feel comfortable challenging us when we can do better. We aim to create non-judgemental spaces that are safe, inviting, welcoming, respectful and empathetic.

Equity

We believe every family deserves equitable access to breastfeeding, chestfeeding and human-milk feeding support. Striving for equity is our driving force. We aim to address individual needs, barriers to accessing support and systemic inequalities for our volunteers and those who come for support. We include restorative justice in our work. We recognise that we won’t have all the answers, so our work is a journey backed by curiosity and motivated improvement.

Connection

We believe in the fundamental power of human connection: between parents and children, families and communities, and between breastfeeding advocates. Strong bonds are vital and through them we are able to achieve our charitable objectives and create an enriching place to volunteer. We celebrate our differences and through that create connections, in our support and with each other.

Empowerment

We empower the families who come to us to achieve their infant feeding goals, whether they provide human milk to their babies for one day or one thousand days. By providing evidenced-based information and support, we enable those who come to us to trust their instincts, knowledge and experience. We advocate for systems that better and more equitably support breastfeeding in Great Britain, and empower our volunteers to develop existing and new skills.

Continuous Improvement

We recognise that we will always have more to learn. Whether from new discoveries about breastfeeding or new practices for supporting parents and babies, we know that when we stay curious and keep an open mind we can provide better volunteer infant feeding support. We aim to continuously improve our own knowledge, internal systems and how we work together as volunteers and with partner organisations.

The Places You’ll Feed

For some families, leaving home with a new baby for the first time can feel monumental! For others, that feeling hits when leaving home means travelling further away. What many mums and parents find is with time and practice, it gets easier and you’ll soon be marking all the places you’ve breastfed all over town and beyond.

Breastfeeding with Power Outages

From time to time, we experience power outages in the UK. What do we do when we're breastfeeding or chestfeeding and the power goes out? There's a few things worth preparing. Remember, breastfeeding and chestfeeding are powerful tools in your toolbox as neither...

When Breastfeeding Keeps Going

Breastfeeding beyond the early days can sometimes feel overwhelming. Your baby’s needs transition to toddler wants, outside pressure to wean can increase, and long nights can start feeling even longer. What does the science say? And you? Our article discusses this and more.
